DUNWOODY, Ga. — Police are investigating a Nov. 12 incident in which a woman lost $1,000 to a scammer who accessed her computer.

The woman told police she was contacted by a man who claimed to represent Apple and that he needed remote access to her computer to fix a virus. The woman granted access and downloaded a program at the man’s request. The man then told the woman to buy $1,000 worth of Apple gift cards as payment.

The woman provided the numbers for the gift cards and later realized it had been a scam.
