I thought it might be interesting to do an unofficial election recap of the 40th district. I only used DeKalb because it represented 77 percent of my vote total. Fulton vote total is 8 percent and Gwinnett vote total is 15 percent.
Overall in DeKalb, President-elect Trump received 51,375 votes versus Hillary Clinton’s 250,849. Including a third party candidate gives Clinton 80 percent of the total vote.
In the 40th district Trump received 24,123 votes versus Clinton’s 34,279. Including a third party candidate gives Clinton a 56 percent to 39 percent win in the 40th district.
Trump received 24,123 votes in the 40th district. Contrast that with Isakson’s 30,655 votes in the 40th district and my total of 31,707 votes. I believe the polls were correct that Republican women as well as some Democrats continued to support Senator Isakson and me.
As you know the Opportunity School District lost statewide 60-40 percent. In the 40th district it lost 51-49 percent.
I believe this election should be a wakeup call to Republicans especially in the metro area. Real effort must be made to expand the traditional base. Changing demographics illustrate this position based on election results in Cobb and Gwinnett counties. This is the one positive Democrats can take from their disappointing results.
I appreciate your continued support and do not hesitate to contact me with your comments and/or questions.
