DUNWOODY, Ga. — A man told authorities June 26 that he had received a suspicious call from an unknown person the previous day informing him that he was pre-approved for a $5,000 personal loan. The caller requested that the man provide an initial payment with a purchased gift card from GameStop. The man purchased the card for $440 before providing the code. The caller then requested the man’s personal information. He gave the caller his date of birth, driver’s license number, Social Security number, address and bank account information.

The man received a call the next day from his bank informing him that his checking account was $900 overdrawn. Police advised him to close his checking account, freeze his credit and obtain a new driver’s license.
