Denied the option to cancel their reservation, the couple didn’t just shrug it off or move on. Instead, they flew to Seoul with a plan of retribution that can only be described as petty and wasteful. According to reports, the couple visited the rented apartment not to enjoy their stay but to exact revenge by leaving all the taps running, turning on every light and electronic device, and even leaving the gas on.
The Consequences of Revenge
To make sure their plan was as impactful as possible, the couple returned to the apartment every few days to ensure everything was still running. This act of defiance led to the waste of over 120,000 liters of water and racked up a hefty bill of $1,570 (approximately 1,430 euros) for gas, water, and electricity combined.
It wasn’t long before the gas company noticed something was amiss. Suspecting a gas leak due to the unusually high usage, they investigated and discovered the couple’s actions. Unfortunately for the apartment owner, Airbnb’s policy doesn’t cover public utility bills, leaving them with the task of footing the bill and trying to recover the costs from the couple, who had already left the country.
