Abe and Yolanda Gaynes, residents of Berman Commons celebrated their 70th anniversary with a party hosted by their children Shelley and Bruce Gaynes on Sunday, Feb. 14. The couple met at the Jersey shore in the summer of 1940, when Yolanda was 16 years old and Abe was 18. It was “love at first sight.” They dated for two to three years and became engaged shortly before Abe was drafted into the army. When he returned home after WW II the couple was married on Feb. 10, 1946. Abe was the proprietor of Red Star paint, a business that was started by his father in Irvington, N.J. During those years, Yolanda was active in Hadassah and ORT, In 1972 when Abe retired the couple moved to of Boca Raton, Fla. There, they both played tennis, and Abe was able to pursue his interest in nature and animals by becoming a tour guide at various nature centers.
Charles and Bette (Biediger) Auslander celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on February 19th. The couple met in first grade at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Greenville, S.C. They had their first date the night of their high school graduation and got engaged Christmas Eve 1965.
