Congratulations to Senator Elect Sally Harrell and Representative Elect Mike Wilensky.

The Democratic party did an outstanding job from Buckhead to Roswell as well as in Peachtree Corners in getting their voters to the polls. It is somewhat ironic that Stacey Abrams organized a tremendous multifamily canvassing effort and she loses and the down ballot candidates prevail.

I think I was the only Republican to win Dunwoody. I received 44 percent of the DeKalb vote and believe just two years ago the number was 54 percent. At the end of the day I don’t believe there was much I could have done to offset the anti-Trump attitude and our changing demographics (not race) throughout the entire district. As a member of the majority party in the State House and State Senate effectiveness did not matter.

We now have no Republicans from DeKalb in the General Assembly. I hope our new senator and representative will oppose a MARTA tax increase; maintain our property tax freeze; and not saddle us with pension obligations for police that no longer serve our cities.

It has been an honor to serve our community for 20 years. I will miss being in the General Assembly but am truly grateful for the support I have received over the years.

In my final two months I will finish my work on recommendations for Dyslexia funding and various school safety initiatives. This week our special session will deal with hurricane relief and probably the airline fuel tax credit.

As always your comments and questions are welcome.
