An already busy spring sports schedule at Marist has become all the more hectic because of the near-record spring rains. Re-scheduling rain outs has been the order of the day.
Lady War Eagle soccer is 3-0 in region action with wins over White County (5-1) and West Hall (10-0) last week. Region competition continues this week with the Lady War Eagles hosting Denmark on Tuesday then traveling to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.
The boys are 2-1 in Region 7-AAAA action, also sweeping region foes White County (7-2) and West Hall (6-0) last week. The War Eagles will also face Denmark at home on Tuesday and travel to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.
The girls’ lacrosse squd returned from a long layoff and beat St Pius X 13-9 but struggled against undefeated 7A Chattahoochee 14-3 last week. Three matches were scheduled for this week starting with neighborhood rival Dunwoody on Tuesday and Etowah on Wednesday, both at home then a trip to McIntosh on Friday.
The boys played visiting Christian Brothers from Memphis on Monday, winning 13-11 then faced their first Area match at St Pius X, winning 12-9 for a 4-2 overall record. The War Eagles will travel to Riverwood on Monday and Fellowship Christian on Wednesday.
Mother Nature played a hand in the tennis teams’ schedules last week. The girls and boys got rained out on Monday from playing Dunwoody but both won their first Region 7-AAAA matches last Thursday, each shutting out West Hall 5-0.
Region action continues this week as both teams will travel to Blessed Trinity on Monday then host Chestatee on Tuesday and Flowery Branch on Thursday. The forecast looks good all week.
On the baseball diamond, the War Eagles lost to Flowery Branch 1-0 last Wednesday in their first region action. The return match-up was scheduled for Friday but due to weather, was rescheduled for this week which will be very busy for Marist.
The boys will travel to Alpharetta and face Denmark on Monday then hit the road again to go to Flowery Branch for the make-up game on Tuesday, with the home rematch against Denmark on Wednesday and Chestatee coming to Jerry Queen Field on Friday. Marist is 8-5 on the season.
Marist will be sending several runners this weekend to the Florida State University Relays in Tallahassee. In addition, the Metro Championship will be held this Saturday at Pace Academy.
On the golf courses, the girls will head to Lake Oconee this coming weekend for the Athens Classic at Harbor Club while the boys continue to prepare for the Boys HS Invitational at the Atlanta Athletic Club Monday (3/25).
