For the first time since 2003, the Dunwoody girls' track team won the DeKalb County High Track & Field championship this week.
In the girls' competition, Alex Cameron came first in the 1600m with a time 5:05:70 and first in the 3200m with a time of 11:19.33. Freshman Lauren Jackson came in first in the 800m with a time of 2:15 and freshman Madison Beecher took fifth place on the 200m with a time of 25:84. Runner Erika Banks finished third in the 100m.
In the girls 4x100 relay, runners Madison Beecher, Lauren Jackson, Erika Banks and Asya Yavuncu finished with a time of 48.47. In the girls 4x400 second, runners Lauren Jackson, Monika Mweija, Erika Banks and Asya Yavuncu finished with a time of 3:51.
The boys' relay team –Matthew Rather, Samari Bates, Conner McKnight and Miles Jones– took third place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:24:75. took 3rd place with a time of 3:24:75-Matthew Rather, Samari Bates, Conner McKnight and Miles Jones.
Mathew Rather finished fifth in the 200m and third in 400m and Blake Tiede took seconnd place in 3200m with a time of 10:11:30.
The team will move into the regional tournament and sectionals before the state meet in May.
