Teams from five local high schools participated in meets from Conyers and Tyrone, Ga. to Boone and Cary, N.C. on Sept. 29.

“This is the best weather for running we’ve had all year,” stated Chamblee cross country coach, Brett Belcher. The boys’ and girls’ varsity teams from Chamblee participated in the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. The girls’ event featured 103 runners from 12 teams, and the Lady Bulldogs finished in eighth place with 232 points and a team average time of 25:45.14. Leading the way for Chamblee was Madeline Wetterhall, who finished in fifth place over all with a time of 21:11.97. Also running for Chamblee were Hannah Rosen, Amie Fallon, Brenda Izaquirre, and Kailyn LaPorte.

The boys’ event featured 167 runners from 18 teams. Chamblee’s boys’ team finished in ninth place over all with 237 points and a team average time of 18:45.26. Competing for Chamblee were Aidan Rogers, Josh Mosby, Martin Bermudez, Joshua Stanley, Darcy Linde, Xavier Hightower, William Linde, Michael Allen, Sidney McAdams, and Ryan Czerwinski.

The North Springs Spartans traveled to Tyrone to participate in the Sandy Creek Fall Classic. The boys’ event featured 92 runners from 13 teams. The Spartans finished in seventh place over all with 178 points and a team average time of 19:12.88. Participating for North Springs were Sean Desmond, Ralph Peeler, Bailey Wood, Justin Fleishman, Jonathan Castle, and Harrison Franklin. North Springs did not field a girls’ team at the meet, but Sarah Edwards and Michelle Rand did participate individually for North Springs in the girls’ 5K event.

The Dunwoody Wildcats traveled to Boone, N.C. to participate in the High Country Cross Country Classic. The girls’ varsity event featured 78 runners from 11 teams. Dunwoody finished in second place with 44 points and a team average time of 20:57.19. The Lady Wildcats had four finishers in the top ten: Alex Cameron, who finished in second place in 19:33, Kailey Williams, who finished in sixth place with 20:54, Ann-Marie Sills, who finished in seventh place with 20:55, and Ansley Heavern, who finished in tenth place with 21:02. Also competing for Dunwoody were Kenzie Johnson, Jennifer Hardister, and Erin Berger.

The boys’ varsity event featured 93 runners from 14 teams. The Wildcats finished in sixth place with a 165 points and a team average time of 18:22.79. Running for Dunwoody were Blake Tiede, Adam Christopher, Connor McKnight, Cadmiel Velazquez, Noah Goldstein, Quinton Johnson, and Jack Martin.

Teams from St. Pius X and the Marist School traveled to Cary, N.C. for the Great American Cross Country Festival, an event that spans two days and features runners from all over the southeast. Both schools had runners competing in two different 5K events: the Red Event and the Race of Champions.

The boys’ Red event featured 140 runners from 21 teams. St. Pius X finished in 11th place overall with a total of 267 points and team average time of 17:47.16. Participating for St. Pius X were Keefe Osment, Patrick Grace, Cameron Wilcox, Tim Becker, Devin Wilcox, Will Brown, and Mack Hathaway.

The boys’ varsity team from Marist,running in the Red event, finished in 12th place overall with a total of 301 points and a team average time of 17:53.94. Competing for Marist were Steven Spiegel, Jack Snelling, Kyle Murdy, Jimmy Brewster, Connor Byrne, Jack Croft and Brett Moran.

The girls’ Red event featured 178 runners from 25 teams. Marist finished in 13th place with 330 points and a team average time of 21:07.42. Running for Marist were Courtney Marburger, Ashley Brunner, Maddie Kitchin, Emily Harrast, Emma Johnson, and Gabby Bowen.

The boys’ 5K Race of Champions featured 221 runners from 31 teams. The St. Pius X Golden Lions finished in ninth place with 338 points and a team average time of 16:04.08. Leading the way for the Golden Lions was Austin Sprague, tenth place finisher overall with a time of 15:20.04. Also competing for St. Pius X were Calvin Tirrell, Andrew Anastasiades, Joseph Ferrugia, Thomas Glenn, Stephen Martinez, and Sergei Templeton.

The boys’ varsity team from Marist finished in 23rd place with 535 points and a team average time of 16:28.76. Participating for the War Eagles were Michael Thurston, Daniel Navarro, Frank Pittman, Jim Galvin, Graham White, Max Demaceto, and Grant Haushalter.

In the girls’ 5K Race of Champions, there were 190 runners from 27 teams. The Marist girls’ team finished in 16th place overall with 431 points and a team average time of 19:41.36. Running for Marist were Morgan Ilse, Kate Northrop, Kellie Kratzenberg, Myriam Shehata, Marlaina Schwab and Ann Marie Ilse.
