DUNWOODY, Ga. — A Dunwoody man contacted police Oct. 9 after he realized he had lost $500 to a scammer.

Earlier that day, the man received an email from someone posing as his friend. The email stated that the friend was in financial trouble and asked the man to lend $500.

The man agreed to help our and was told to purchase five $100 gift cards and send the number. After the man followed through, he became suspicious of the interaction and realized he had been scammed.

The man called Apple and was told to file a police report in order to have the money refunded.
