DUNWOODY, Ga. — Police are investigating possible animal cruelty after they discovered a sick and malnourished dog that had been left inside an apartment on Madison Drive.

The apartment complex’s regional manager called police after she found the dog while conducting a biannual unit inspection. 

Police said the dog, which appeared to be a German Shepard, had significant amounts of ribcage and spine showing. The dog appeared to be sick and hungry and was locked in a cage, according to police.

Officers added that the apartment unit was covered in trash and dog feces.\Animal control said the dog was at risk of neglect or cruelty. The dog was taken to a veterinarian who will determine if the dog has suffered from animal cruelty.
