Boy Scouts don’t go back-packing without adults. In this photo, the four men, all more than 60 years old, represent more than 70 years of scouting. This summer they followed the boys of Troop 266 at Dunwoody United Methodist Church on two treks ranging from 66 miles to 86 miles and climbing peaks as high as 12,400 feet at Philmont High Adventure Camp in the New Mexico Rockies. One of the leaders, Phil Stovall, told The Crier the most challenging role was to keep their mouths shut and their hands in their pockets when the boys faced a seemingly obvious choice or solution. Shown (L-R) are: Ron Sims, Stovall, Richard Gash and Michael Lowery.
