Q, the Fire Dog, demonstrates fire safety to local children.

Runner registration is gaining momentum for the second annual RunDunwoody5K/1MFunRun/TotTrot presented by the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, Sunday, October 23 at Perimeter Place.

The popular 5K race is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier on a fast and scenic course while the 1-Mile FunRun and Tot Trot offer additional running options for one and all.

Learn more about running options and reserve your spot now with online registration at www.rundunwoody.net or www.thecrier.net.  Proceeds benefit Dunwoody’s first responders and help fund selected education and health projects focused on kids.

At the finish line, runners and their friends can enjoy the RunDunwoody Family Festival.

Race Chairman Kelly Hundley said, “Our goal is to grow this into a community-endorsed, can’t-miss event. That means offering more than an opportunity to run.  We want entire families to come out to enjoy a broad range of activities that attract a family, especially the young and young at heart.”

Before the run, a pre-race warm-up will be presented by Operation Boot Camp. Presenting sponsor Saint Joseph’s Hospital will provide cardiovascular screenings.  Ruby Sponsor Georgia Perimeter College will be onsite offering dental health education and screenings.  Another Ruby Sponsor, the Medicine Shoppe, will offer flu shots as the flu season begins in earnest.

On hand also will be members of DeKalb Fire Rescue and Dunwoody Police Department —complete with fire truck and patrol car— presenting an opportunity to learn more about what they do for the community and giving kids of all ages an up-close-and-personal look at the trucks, cars, people and equipment used to protect our community.  Top it all off with music, games, awards, prizes and great “tastes” of Dunwoody.

A feature not to be missed is a special guest appearance by Fire Dog “Q.”  Together with her handler, “Q” visits local schools and demonstrates proper fire safety skills to help young and old in case of a fire.  “Q” will show off her unique skills at RunDunwoody and, in process, educate with fun.
