Learning about local government and community volunteering are two goals of Dunwoody’s Youth City Council whose members hail from Dunwoody High School. Initiated three years ago, this year’s YCC has the most members to date and 18 were introduced to city council members at their meeting last week.
DHS Social Studies Department Chair Mike Berry sponsors the YCC and said that students will participate in a job shadow day at city hall, attend monthly meetings to learn about city departments from city employees and complete one or two special projects about a real-world topic or issue that impacts students and the city.
After completion of the special projects, the YCC will present their findings to city council members.
