Congratulations to area graduates and to the valedictorians and salutatorians from local schools.

Dunwoody High School

The 2018 valedictorian is Shreya Nainwal. Shreya is going to Georgia Tech and is planning to major in environmental studies. During high school she has enjoyed being the president of NHS and a leader in Rho Kappa Honors Society and UNICEF.

The co-salutatorians for this year are Caitlin Howie and the Crier’s own high school sports writer Alexandra Buhl. Alex is going to Georgia Tech as a Presidential Stamps Scholar and is planning to major in business and international affairs. During high school she has enjoyed being the president of UNICEF club and Spanish NHS.

Alex Joshua Eldridge and Mary Dee Sturken are the 2018 Star Student and Star Teacher for Dunwoody High School.

Chamblee Charter High School

The 2018 resident valedictorian is Aminur Ali and resident salutatorian is Khawla Nirjhar. The 2018 magnet valedictorian is Sakshi Sehgal and magnet salutatorian is Brian Kang.

Marist School

The 2018 valedictorian is Anais Marenco. The salutatorian for this year is Carol Beatty.

Marist School senior Jack Maley has been named the school’s 2018 PAGE STAR Student. Maley selected Dr. Jerry Aull, a theology teacher at Marist School, as his STAR Teacher.

Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School

The 2018 valedictorian is Megan Lienau. Throughout high school, Megan took 11 AP courses and achieved the status of AP Scholar with Distinction with a GPA of 4.66. Outside of academics, she was honored to have served as the president of the Business and Entrepreneurship Club, vice president of the National Honor Society, Environmental Prefect, and Head Prefect. Being a part of the athletics program Megan competed as a three-sport varsity athlete for three seasons. This fall, she will join the Chapel Hill family as a Morehead Cain scholar at the University of North Carolina.

Arial Strode is Mount Vernon’s salutatorian for 2018. She was president of both the Interact Club and National Honor Society, as well as co-founder of The Chimera, Mount Vernon’s Literary Magazine. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction, meaning she received an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. She will attend Duke University this fall.

North Springs Charter High School

Jared Coffsky, 18, son of Adam and Amy Coffsky of Sandy Springs is North Springs’ Valedictorian for the Class of 2018.  Jared is a math and science magnet student, a 2018 STAR Student, a 2018 National Merit Finalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Jared has served as the co-president of the Spartan Math Team and co-captain of the Varsity Tennis Team, which reached the first round of state finals this year and the state quarter finals last year. He played singles all four years, receiving The Spartan Award his senior year and the Scholar Athlete Award all four years.  He is also a member of the National Mathematics Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and a winner of numerous math awards. Jared will be attending Georgia Institute of Technology and is planning on majoring in engineering or math.

Eric Miller, 18, son of Drs. Mindi and Scott Miller of Sandy Springs is North Springs’ Salutatorian for the Class of 2018.  Eric is a math and science magnet student, a 2018 STAR Student, a member of the National Mathematics Honor Society and the National Honor Society. Eric is also a 2018 National Merit Finalist and was a 2017 Governors Honors finalist in math.  He is president of the Latin Club, a Gold Medal National Latin Exam winner, and an officer in the Computer Science Club. Eric and his team placed seventh in the state in the 2018 Future Business Leaders Mobile App Development Competition.   Eric is the current president of Temple Emanu-El Federation of Temple Youth and served as social action vice president from 2014-17. Eric will be attending the University of Georgia as a Ramsey Scholar majoring in computer science.

St. Pius X High School

The valedictorian for the class of 2018 is Nicholas Poulos and the salutatorian is Matthew Halbig.   

St. Pius X also announced its Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program student and teacher.  Poulos was selected as the STAR student, while World Languages Department Chair Maria Kepler was named the STAR teacher for 2018.
