Marist School mathematics teacher Rand Wise has received the Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished Teaching in middle school and high school for his work with the American Mathematics Competitions program, which is sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. The Edyth May Sliffe Award is given annually by the MAA to approximately 20 teachers in the United States and math teachers for their commitment to encouraging young people to experience mathematics by teaching them to solve interesting problems. Wise will be recognized as a Sliffe Award recipient during the MAA MathFest conference in Denver.

Wise has taught math at Marist School since 2014. Besides coaching Marist’s math and academic teams, he is a recent runner-up contestant on NBC’s ‘Jeopardy!’
